A Cross Country Adventure

In the early summer of 2020, a group of vintage off-road vehicles will be leaving the east coast to cross the country on the Trans America Trail (TAT). The TAT is a mostly off pavement route passing through some of the most scenic areas of the country. This route was developed by Sam Correro, for off-road motorcycle riders. Many overland adventurers have used Sam's maps to complete this trip of a lifetime. We plan on doing the same, except our vehicle of choice will be vintage Willys Jeeps, Land Rovers, Land Cruisers, Broncos, etc. Imagine yourself traveling this trail in your trusty old rig, along with other fellow enthusiasts from all across the country. Certainly, a trip of a lifetime!

The route is approximately 5200 miles. Starting in Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, and ending in Port Orford, Oregon, on the west coast. Depending on the terrain, weather, sightseeing stops, and possible mechanical issues, daily mileage will vary widely. The goal of this adventure is to see the county in a way most people will never experience. A slower paced drive, where the journey is the focus, not the destination. Daily planned stops will include historical sights, short walks, picture taking, and talking to many people along the way who are interested in our vehicles.

This adventure is for people who want to see our beautiful country at a slower, more relaxed pace. Our focus will NOT be to test our vehicles on the most difficult trails we can find, but take the path of least resistance and enjoy the scenery. There will still be plenty of miles where four-wheel drive and low range will be needed. This will be a difficult trip based on the distance alone. A good running, well-serviced vehicle, is very important!

Traveling the entire TAT will probably be a 7 to an 8-week trip. This is a huge commitment in time and expense. This will be a trip of a lifetime, and the memories will last forever. I invite everyone who is interested, to follow our process of preparing for this adventure, and consider joining us. We would welcome your participation at any time you can during this trip.

As we journey across the country, our locations will be updated on our social media sites. The vision of this adventure is to have new people joining us along the route as they can. Our numbers will rise and fall as we pass through different areas. If the TAT is near to where you live, come be our guide for the day!
